THE UNPARDONABLE SIN

What is this sin?

Let us first consider
We use words like, unrighteousness, lawlessness, trespass, iniquity, transgression as words to describe the action of sin, but sin is actually always directed against God, it is a direct disobedience of the instructions and Laws of God.
Sin was present in the universe before the creation of Man and the fall of Adam and Eve. This is evident from the appearance and action of the Tempter, Satan, in the Garden of Eden. (Gen 3)
Satan’s method of attack was to persuade Eve that she and her husband would be "as god, knowing good and evil." Eve gave into the temptation and then persuaded Adam to do the same. They gave the place of God over to Satan the tempter and their own personal lusts and desires.
As a result of this rejection of God man is cursed, even though Mankind was the crown of God’s creation, because He made us in the "image of God" and mankind should have been heirs and part of the family of God, this also means that Mankind should have been part of God’s eternal life.
It was to restore this relationship with God that His Son Jesus came into the world, it was planned by God, from the beginning, that Jesus would take the punishment for men and women, by the grace of God it was given as a gift when Jesus died upon the cross.

There are three basic types of sin

1. Moral sin

Which include murder, stealing, rape, lies, hate. They are sins which often affect others as well as God. But all can be saved by the Grace of God through the death and blood of Jesus.

2) Intelectual sin.

There are many people who have the opinion that "There is no God", Man just ’appeared’ by accident and evolution, These are called "atheist." An atheist believes that "I am the highest creation on the earth and possibly in the universe, there is no superior being like God,"

3) Blasphemy sins.

This is an act dishonouring of God, by cursing or calling God names (reviling), making something or someone like a god in their life, it becomes very important to you. Most often it will be done by those who do not believe there is a God but it can also be done by the Lord’s own people.
We can blaspheme God without words, just by the way we live our life.
Most sins can be forgiven but the scripture says that there is one sin which is unpardonable.
The unpardonable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit by saying that the acts of the Spirit are of the devil.
Matt 12 22-32 The unpardonable sin

The following story from the scriptures shows this unpardonable sin occuring.
Matt 12 22-32 note 'The spirit of God' v32
"Then was brought unto Him one possessed with a devil, blind and dumb; and He healed him, so that the blind and dumb both spoke and saw." Jesus casts out the devil in the man and heals the man miraculously. The Pharisees who were present could see that their leadership, teaching and power being taken away by Jesus. They could not deny that a miracle had taken place but tried to explain it away - This man does it by the power of Satan - Beelzebub.
Beelzebub was a god of the Phoenician, a god of filth. The Phoenicians had seen that when rubbish is left after a few days the rubbish produces white worms, they thought that out of the rubbish life was being created - rubbish must be a god, they created the god of rubbish - Beelzebub.
The Pharisees said that Jesus was casting out the devil and healing the man by this power of Beelzebub. They were saying that ’rubbish’ was healing the man not God.

The Pharisees had sinned in three ways.
1) Sinned against redemption.
A man afflicted by demons, in love Jesus has healed him. Jesus came seeking men for redemption but they rejected Him, sent Him to calvary. Are you doing this?

2) Sinned against reason.

Consider v24, how can a kingdom destroy itself? What the Pharisees were saying does not make sense.
Jesus response was "I am against the devil. I come to give man life."
Pharisees were intelligent people but they chose to believe and say these things, they were working against the Word of God, there are many today who are prepared to trample on the message from God.

There are hypocrites in all Church’s, being a hypocrite is a sin against reason.
For example, you have somehow received one fake, counterfeit coin or note. Once you realized that it was fake, would you go out and destroy all your money because of this one fake, worthless coin / note?.
There are unfortunately some "doctors are ’quacks’," They are not very good doctors or even fake doctors. Suppose you became ill, would you not try to find a good doctor to make you well.
Some lawyers can be poor at their job or even cheats, but we still need to use a lawyer. Why? because you think you know better.
Supposed during you childhood your mother made you go to church every Sunday, now you have grown up you refused to go to church because of your Mothers demands. Well, did your mother also make you wash or take a bath? What would happen if you do not wash or have a bath now?.
When God calls, often a person responds with "I will not give up my life, He is asking too much from me." We forget that God only wants to give the best for a person.

v28 Sinned against revelation.

By the Spirit of God. God was working through Jesus using the Holy Spirit. Jesus did this by the power of Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit opens the eyes to see and understand.
On the cross Jesus said, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."
Matt 11:23

"Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not: Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee."

Men and women will be judged not only by their sins but also by their rejection of the Spirit and the message.
Sodom was a city which had heard the message of light and rejected it. Sodom was a terrible place of sin, but Jesus said it would be better for them on the Day of Judgement than you if you reject the message of salvation.
John 3:19

"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. "

The unpardonable sin is rejecting the Holy Spirit.

The deceiving sin 2 Thess 2 :11-12 God can send delusions. Why? v12 believe not the truth but pleasure in sin. Believed not the truth - cannot have the truth of God and their own sin desires. Deliberately sin against the light.
Man hears a preacher speaking on money, the man who came to the meeting has objection to others using his money, - "all they want to do is steal my money."
In the man's heart he has created an 'idol' of money. After attending many meetings, one day he refuses to go to the church, he turns his back on God. Sometime later while he is in his home he gets a knock on the door, two Jehovah Witnesses have come and want to talk to the man, they teach 'there is no hell' and the man believes their lie, he gets a 'strong delusion'. Following this meeting the man decides 'that this is the way I'm going', God says "OK, I'll help you go that way!!!" Rom 11:8.
This sin has a deadening power, when we hear the message we take no notice of it. A message which is repeated will often develop a 'deadening' to the message by a person. Heb 3:7,8, the person has thoughts like "I'm not afraid to die!" Heb 6:4-6.
It is impossible .to make "a renew to repentance." There is a point where you cannot be saved, because you are repeatedly crucifying Christ.
For example. You visit a shop who offer you a cheese sample, it is delicious, "I'll take 2 lbs" but when the shop keeper tells you the price it is very high, you turn round to the shopkeeper and say "I'm not going to pay that much for cheese!!" This is what it means when you have "tasted of the Holy Spirit" and rejected Him, you are not prepared to 'pay the price' for the free gift. God will not always fight man or woman.

If you really want to be saved, He will save you, even if you think you have said "no" before.
